SUNSET
Saturday 14th December 2019
7pm - 7am
SUNSET, a 12-hour event celebrating and misremembering Wellington in the 1990s was created by Brigid Connor and Paula van Beek. The free, all-night expanded performance project inspired was by the world premiere of Gary Henderson’s play 'Sunset Cafe' at BATS Theatre which they saw when they were young teens back in 1993!
Created specifically to celebrate BATS Theatre's 30th year the event paid homage to 1990s Wellington, as well acting as a ritual for 'letting go'. It celebrated the 'good old grungy days' of BATS, but also encouraged the arts community to allow BATS to grow up from its misspent youth and shift into a new more 'grown up' phase. The event took over all three renovated floors of 1 Kent Tce with food, drinks, dancing, design installations, a pop up cinema and a live 12-hour broadcast on Radio Active 88.6fm.
